Like many military dependents’ villages built after the government’s relocation to Taiwan in 1949, Gancheng Seventh Village in Daliao District of Kaohsiung is characterized by wooden grill doors, bamboo fences, ancient trees, and traditional foods like dumplings. It has been a tradition for residents in these villages to eat dumplings during the Chinese New Year. Inspired by his grandfather’s homemade pork dumplings, the owner sells dumplings, noodles and chicken soup with his father, so that the wonderful taste of hometown cuisine continues to live on in this eatery immersed in classical music.
