Favor Tonic Soup, a shop found along Neijiang Street, Wanhua District, has been preparing hearty, medical herb aroma-filled Sishen soup since 1965. Located in the hometown of its founder, the shop has operated based on the same philosophy for three generations.

Run by Shih-ching Chang, Favor Tonic Soup has been operating for three generations. A shop that was passed down by Chang’s father and grandfather, Favor Tonic Soup is a major part of Chang’s childhood memory. Just like when it first started, Favor Tonic Soup offers hearty, nourishing, reasonably priced Sishen soup containing dong quai and Sishen medicinal materials cooked using the unique recipe, methods, and ingredient ratios developed by Chang’s grandfather. The soup is made using electrically stunned and slaughtered local pigs (instead of imported pork) purchased professionally. Chang has not forgotten the words of his grandfather: make sure to fill the stomach of blue-collar workers! Also available at Favor Tonic Soup is sourdough-made baozi priced at NT$10, a price that has stayed the same since 1965. Customers regularly order a Sishen soup and a baozi for a satisfying and filling meal.
In support of the “Taipei Store Reengineering Project” in 2021, Favor Tonic Soup relocated to a new location and refurbished its storefront, evoking a hipster-like ambiance. A large motley red table that has been around since the time of Chang’s grandfather was kept at the suggestion of a consultant to serve as a proof of the shop’s long history. The aroma of medicinal herbs and appreciation for blue-collar workers remain to this day, as exemplified by the slogan on the shop wall: warm and hearty meals for all.
